Welcome from Alan Barham, Headteacher of The Sittingbourne Community College
I am very pleased to welcome you to the website for the proposed conversion to academy status of The Sittingbourne Community College. We are working with the Westlands Academies Trust on proposals to change The Sittingbourne Community College in to an Academy in January 2012. The consultation period has now finished and I’d like to thanks everyone who took the time to respond.
If plans go ahead, the Academy will open in January 2012 and currently proposes to retain the same name, the same brand, the same Principal, the same entry criteria and uniform. The key changes will be around building on the successes enjoyed by Sittingbourne to date and drawing on the qualities of both the Sponsor and the existing team to continue the excellent work done in raising standards and aspirations across the College. There is also the opportunity of attracting additional funding from the Department to make changes to the look and feel of the Sittingbourne Community College site - for the benefits of students, teachers and the community.
We will work closely with our sponsor, the Westlands Academies Trust, to build on The Sittingbourne Community College's good work and strong foundations and make sure that we deliver the best possible education for our students. We will work very hard to continue to improve on our academic results for all students, drawing on the Westland Academies Trust's extensive skills and experience. You can read more about the Sponsor's plans here.
